Headbands All Around

I’ve always been a BIG fan of headbands, especially worn across my forehead. Sometimes I would get made fun of because I would literally rock one everyday. They were and are an easy fix for keeping my front hair out of my face. I HATE hair in my face! Plus I think they just look adorable…on everyone.

So headbands all around!

All headbands from Urban Outfitters and American Apparel.

aerie : Our Little Girl Is All Grown Up

If you follow this blog or know anything about me, you probably know I’m a lady with many jobs. I’m an Actress, Host, Stylist and former MTV Producer to name a few. You can learn all about my gigs here if you like…but that’s not really what this post is all about. Its about my styling baby: aerie.

I got into styling because of my dear friend Matthew Ellenberger, Director of Concept & Design at American Eagle Outfitters (aerie is the underwear/loungewear line within AE). About 3 years ago, he asked me if I would assist him on an LA based campaign shoot…I did and LOVED IT! I’ve been fortunate enough to work on almost every aerie campaign shoot since! (With the exception of a few, that have conflicted with acting or hosting work…feast or famine, ya know?!) In that time I went from wardrobe assistant, to wardrobe associate to my current position as aerie’s own stylist! YAY! But lots more has changed then just my job title…aerie itself has undergone a HUGE transformation.

Let’s put it this way…3 years ago when shooting our Holiday campaign, we had our lovely female models fully clothed in PJs (with hats & socks too), baking cookies, wrapping presents and lounging with Beagle puppies! Cut to the edgier, sexier campaigns of the past couple of  years and our ladies look HOT HOT HOT and are wearing less, less, less! Hooray!

Our aerie girl is all grown up and I’m a very proud mama.

Below are pics from last 3 seasons, check them out, then get to your nearest aerie (usually located within an American Eagle) and pick up something cute! This Summer try a pretty neon bra peeking under a loose fit white tank!

TOMS For All

I’ve been wanting to check out TOMS Shoes for a while now and finally got around to it today. I ordered a pair of red classics for me and charcoal cordones for Damien then I read up on Blake Mycoskie, CEO and Founder of TOMS Shoes and I was instantly touched and impressed! What a novel idea…create a company for profit that ALSO helps children in need. I LOVE IT! TOMS Shoes was founded on a simple premise: With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One. Using the purchasing power of individuals to benefit the greater good is what we’re all about. The TOMS One for One business model transforms our customers into benefactors, which allows us to grow a truly sustainable business rather than depending on fundraising for support.”

So basically those 2 pairs of shoes that will come in the mail for me and Damien in about 3 business days will ALSO provide 2 pairs of shoes to two children in need. How great is that?! Why can’t every business do that?! Imagine a world where every time you bought a book, or CD, or pair a jeans that same item was provided to kids and families in need all over the world! It’s truly a spectacular idea that I hope all businesses will one day strive for.

TOMS are available for men, women and children. Here are some of my favorite pairs below. These kicks are PERFECT for Summer, so pick a pair today! You’ll be happy you did. Trust me…Its amazing how a little act of giving can make you feel. Wooohooo!

Go Buy Now: 5 Summer Essentials

Its Summer Time! So let’s go shopping. Here are 5 of my favorite Summer Essentials. Read below for shopping links and “How To” wear them. Leave me a comment and let me know what’s your favorite essential. And as always, feel free to ask me any styling questions you may have. Happy Shopping!

#1 Blazers & Jackets: Military Jackets are BIG this season and perfect to throw over girly pieces to “edge it up” a bit. (Urban Outfitters $48) Ivory, Cream or Off-White Blazers will dress up everything in your closet. They look chic and polished and the light colors are a dreamy replacement to your black Boyfriend Blazer for Summer. (Ann Taylor LOFT $89.50)

#2 Floral Print Dresses: Floral dresses were hot for Spring and continue on into the Summer. They’re great when you want to stay cool and be comfy but still look fabulous. Wear them with strappy flats or earth toned wedges. (Kimchi Blue $58 & J Crew $250)

#3 Loose Fit Pants: Perfectly paired with a tank, vest or light jacket these pants are a fun twist on Summer fashion. Have fun with patterns and colors and make sure the fit is loose NOT baggy…roll up the bottoms, throw on some wedges and viola! A hip, trendy look for all body types. (What Goes Around, Comes Around $194.45 & J Brand $216)

#4 Slouchy Shorts: The days of Daisy Dukes are long gone…so please don’t wear them! Instead opt for slouchy jean or chino shorts; they are way more comfortable and a lot more classy. Try wearing them with a sheer or lace girly top and a pair of Keds…its a feminine and casual look you can rock all Summer long. (The Gap $50 & Son of John Sequin Trim $152)

#5 Pastels & Neons: Whether its a skirt, shirt or pair of pants get adventurous this Summer with pastel and neon colors! But please don’t over do it. Limit your look to ONE item of pastel or neon and make sure the rest of your outfit is basic. American Apparel is dominating in the color palettes so visit your local store and go crazy. (All American Apparel: Skirt $54, Tank $15 & Slim Slacks $73)

Travel In Style…Always!

On my recent flight from LAX to JFK I noticed something I could no longer ignore: women looking like slobs when flying! Yeah ok, I get it, you want to be comfortable…its a long flight…blah, blah, blah. But there’s a way to be comfortable and still look fabulous! So please give your Uggs and Juicy Couture sweatsuits to charity…NOW!

5 Clothing Items (you probably already own) That Are Comfy & Still Stylish:

1. Flats: Throw on a pair of fashionable flats! Whether ballet black, printed or fleece moccassins, flats are a great comfy alternative to Uggs. They are easy to slip on and off at airport security and they look feminine and chic.

2. Cotton or Jean Leggings: Leggings are a way more put together looking than sweats and equally as warm and comfortable! Plus no belt needed so you wont get held up at security.

3. Long Cardigan, Sweater or Coat: Invest in a fashionista fun sweater or coat that covers your bum and keeps you warm. We all know how chilly an airplane can get and since no one offers blankets anymore…bring your own! In the form of apparel.

4. Stylish Scarf: Its pretty hard to NOT look totally awesome when you’re rocking a kick-ass scarf. Scarves are the ultimate accessory because they really can bring any outfit from boring to WOW! Its also a great airplane tool for covering your face when your rude neighbor rips a stinky one (you know what I’m talking about)

5. Carry-On Bag: A shopping bag is NOT an acceptable carry-on bag! Even if its a “designer” shopping bag like Barneys or Saks! Luggage can be pricey but its a total investment and can make traveling so much easier. Invest the money…its worth it! Have fun with colors, styles and prints. But make sure its a sensible fun, you don’t want to spend money on a pattern or color you’re gonna be sick of after your 3rd trip.

Check out these lovely celebs and their fantastic travel looks. Leave a comment below and let me know what you think. Happy Traveling! (click on the links above to shop the items)

In these photos: Zoe Saldana, Kate Moss, Rihanna & Mila Kunis.

Happy Earth Day!

In honor of Earth Day, I want to tell you about two great designers producing Earth friendly fashion: Jungle Gurl & People Tree. Check out their stories and photos below, visit their sites, and let me know what you think. HAPPY EARTH DAY!

Jungle Gurl: The concept is simple, eco-science and yet ever-so chic. Take vintage fabrics that the former model-cum-actress-cum-designer, Natalie Golonka, has amassed over years of global travel and rework them into fabulously flattering one-of-a-kind bikinis. The first of which were quickly snapped up by LA notables Fred Segal and Planet Blue, and have since spread to several boutiques across the country. Hot!

People Tree: All you need to learn more about this UK based fashion company is their very insightful Mission Statement.

  • To support producer partners’ efforts towards economic independence and control over their environment and to challenge the power structures that undermine their rights to a livelihood.
  • To protect the environment and use natural resources sustainably throughout our trading and to promote environmentally responsible lifestyles and environmental initiatives to create new models to promote sustainability.
  • To supply customers with good quality products, with friendly and efficient service and build awareness to empower consumers and producers to participate in Fair Trade and environmentally sustainable solutions.
  • To provide a supportive environment to all stakeholders and promote dialogue and understanding between them.
  • To set an example to business and the government of a Fair Trade model of business based on partnership, people-centred values and sustainability.

Top 5 Must Haves For Spring

A warm day on the West and East coast can only mean one thing…SPRING is just around the corner! Time to put away your Winter knits and break out the delicate florals. Here are some Must Haves for Spring. Jump to the bottom to learn how to wear them. Click on the image for a larger view.

#1 Neutral Wedges: Pair these comfy shoes with floral dresses, shorts or skinny jeans. The lighter color is great for Spring and looks hot with a bright colored pedicure.

#2 Floral Print Dresses: Girly, comfortable and sexy all in one! Have fun by accessorizing with your favorite thick OR skinny belt. You can rock Vans, Keds, Converse or Vintage combat boots to add a little boyish flair to a very girly look.

#3 Khaki Trench Coat: April showers bring May flowers right? Well, don’t let a little rain make you any less fashionable. Throw on a sexy trench and make sure to belt it so you don’t look sloppy.

#4 Black Dress Shorts: Great for Spring AND Summer (though for Summer I would save them for evening wear) pair these classy black shorts with a silk blouse or tucked in button down. Whatever top you choose, try tucking it in…it’ll give you more shape and a much more polished look.

#5 Bralet Top: Take your undies out of the bedroom but not in a trashy way  Try a bralet under a thin button down shirt with the top 3 or 4 buttons open. Or for my brave ladies with the tight abs, go for the bralet alone BUT wear it with a high-waisted bottom so your belly button is hidden. Generally speaking belly button showing = no bueno.

Please leave a comment and let me know what you’re shopping for this Spring.

J Crew: Not Just Preppy Anymore

A few months ago my good friend, actor Josh Pais, became my newest client. We were shopping in NYC and stumbled upon the J Crew Men’s Shop! It was unlike any other J Crew I’ve ever seen. The shop took the spot of the historic Liquor Store Bar, the only NYC landmark that served liquor. The 925 square foot space is divided into two rooms, with most of the old school bar fixtures still intact. Reasonably priced, these clothes were not your usual J Crew fare. Preppy polos were replaced by fitted, chic buttons downs, slim fit jeans, kick-ass shoes and designer jackets and blazers. And the sales associates were beyond helpful and super fashion savvy.

Here are some great looks you can purchase online...but if you find yourself anywhere near NYC, give the store a visit. Its quite the shopping experience!

Go Buy Now! Stripes, Stripes & More Stripes

I’ve always been a HUGE lover of stripes. In fact, there was a point in my life where I had to force myself to buy some solids to complete my wardrobe. Now I’m not saying anyone should ever wear stripes from head to toe…But throwing on an article of clothing with some stripes always adds flair while still looking sophisticated!

Fashion Tip: Stay away from lower body stripes (meaning no shorts or pants)…it’ll make you look bottom heavy and no one wants that!
