top 5 trends for fall

Labor Day has arrived and Summer is pretty much over but that’s okay because here comes FALL FASHION! Here are 5 of my favorite trends for this season. Check them out below, with tips on how to wear them and let me know what you think.

1

60s Lady Like: The Mad Men affect is still going strong so get fabulous, get lady like and have a ball. Go for full skirts and fitted tops, high-waist trousers and cardigans with accents of faux fur. Wear these looks with pumps that have a thicker, sturdy heel or pretty flats.

2

Socks and Shoes: I love this look! Though I will admit its not for everyone. If you can pull it off, go for it. Make sure the sock color compliments the boot or strappy sandal. This is a great way to expand your shoe inventory for Fall. You won’t have to put away all those open-toed shoes just yet…simply add a sock.

3

Leather and Lace: Go for pretty, go for edge or go for both at the same time! Have fun with leather and lace but stick to neutral colors like black and cream. Please don’t seek out red leather or pink lace…leave that for the ladies of the night. When wearing cream lace go for a chunky wedge or bootie boot in black to tone down the girly factor. On the flip side, when rocking black leather, try girly accents like a frilly top.

4

Buttoned Up Button Down: I like to call this “Nerdy Chic.” The days of over-sized boyfriend button-downs are over (for now), the newest trend is a sleek fit button down, buttoned all the way up! If your bra size is bigger than a C cup I would probably stay away from this trend. Covering up the cleavage to that extent may make you look top heavy. Another tip: because of the boyish nature of this trend, girl it up in every other way: hair down, red lip, fitted pants or short shorts to compliment.

5

Aviator and Military Fashions: The military trend just won’t go away but that’s okay, it looks fabulous on everyone and I’m a big fan. This season there’s an aviator influence on the military front. Think Amelia Earhart meets couture. Structured jackets and coats are the way to go, in army green and my new favorite color navy (such a great alternative to black). Faux fur and brown leather accents make this look complete.

Quick Tip To A Hot Outfit

It may seem simple and obvious but its a gem of a tip…

When getting dressed for a night out DO YOUR MAKE-UP & HAIR FIRST!!!

It will help you decide what to wear, because you’ll already look good.

If you try to dress with tired bags under your eyes and your hair a mess; nothing you put on (no matter how cute) will look complete or good.

On the other hand, if you’re hair & make-up ready, you’ll already look fabulous and can “play” more with your clothes. You can try out different accessories and automatically see what works rather than think… “hmm, this might work once my hair is done.”

Now, you may ask “what if after I get dress, my hair or make-up doesn’t go with my outfit?” I have two answers to that:

1. You’re make-up should match YOU not your outfit!

2. Its super easy to change up your lipstick (go from glossy to red etc) or put up your hair AFTER you pick out your outfit. You still want to be mostly ready before you dress!

Do you have any fashion tips for dressing up that you want to share? Leave a comment below, would love to hear from you!

Travel In Style…Always!

On my recent flight from LAX to JFK I noticed something I could no longer ignore: women looking like slobs when flying! Yeah ok, I get it, you want to be comfortable…its a long flight…blah, blah, blah. But there’s a way to be comfortable and still look fabulous! So please give your Uggs and Juicy Couture sweatsuits to charity…NOW!

5 Clothing Items (you probably already own) That Are Comfy & Still Stylish:

1. Flats: Throw on a pair of fashionable flats! Whether ballet black, printed or fleece moccassins, flats are a great comfy alternative to Uggs. They are easy to slip on and off at airport security and they look feminine and chic.

2. Cotton or Jean Leggings: Leggings are a way more put together looking than sweats and equally as warm and comfortable! Plus no belt needed so you wont get held up at security.

3. Long Cardigan, Sweater or Coat: Invest in a fashionista fun sweater or coat that covers your bum and keeps you warm. We all know how chilly an airplane can get and since no one offers blankets anymore…bring your own! In the form of apparel.

4. Stylish Scarf: Its pretty hard to NOT look totally awesome when you’re rocking a kick-ass scarf. Scarves are the ultimate accessory because they really can bring any outfit from boring to WOW! Its also a great airplane tool for covering your face when your rude neighbor rips a stinky one (you know what I’m talking about)

5. Carry-On Bag: A shopping bag is NOT an acceptable carry-on bag! Even if its a “designer” shopping bag like Barneys or Saks! Luggage can be pricey but its a total investment and can make traveling so much easier. Invest the money…its worth it! Have fun with colors, styles and prints. But make sure its a sensible fun, you don’t want to spend money on a pattern or color you’re gonna be sick of after your 3rd trip.

Check out these lovely celebs and their fantastic travel looks. Leave a comment below and let me know what you think. Happy Traveling! (click on the links above to shop the items)
