Do Something Awards: Highlights

Last night Damien and I had the pleasure of attending the Do Something Awards here in Hollywood. They honor the best young world-changers, 25 and under, that are making the world a better place. In addition, they honor a select group of celebs who are also making a difference. It was a fun-filled night of entertainment and heart-felt emotion. It aired on VH1 and in true MTV (Networks) fashion, I’m sure it will air about 300 more times this week so check it out! Here are some red carpet pics and show highlight photos. In these photos: Jane Lynch, Demi Lovato, Joe Jonas, Alyssa Milano, Kathy Griffith, Kara DioGuardi, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, Natasha Bedingfield, Leven Rambin, Cast of MTVs “The Buried Life”, Do Something finalists, Christina Applegate, Snoop Dogg, Deion Sanders & Kellan Lutz.

Its Good To Have WiFi When Flying

Because I get to tell you a little story without having to wait until I land!

Just stepped onto my LAX –>> JFK flight and as entered the Virgin American plane and peeped out the first class patrons; I did a double-take at the guy taking his seat in row 2. He’s wasn’t a celebrity and I wasn’t “checking him out” (at least not in a sleazy sort of way) but I WAS impressed by his style. “Oooh did he read my blog post on traveling in style?!” I thought. He had on a nicely tailored denim shirt with a brown fitted sports coat, tailored slacks and he carried a very chic brown leather briefcase.

He looked GREAT! Very stylish without looking like he tried to hard…

Wouldn’t it would be nice if more men took pride in what they wore and “dressed up” a little more often? Like in the “Mad Men” days when we all cared a bit more about our appearances. Hmmm.

This blog post is less of a “How To” post and more of a “What If” post. So you tell me…ladies, would it be nice to see your man rocking something a little more fashionable from time to time? And men, do you think it would feel good or be fun to venture out in the wardrobe department?

Men: Here are some example of impeccable, practical, stylish & sexy menswear looks (mostly from Europe, where the men DO in fact dress up!) Get INSPIRED and surprise your lady with a little wardrobe flair. And if you have any question on how to get a certain look, feel free to shoot me a message. Would love to hear from you.

The Drama In Me

Loves these photos and looks! Photographed by Paolo Roversi for W Magazine.

Believe it or not you can take key components of these looks for your everyday wear. Lace, ruffle and old fashioned beauty are in for Fall/Winter so hit up your local thrift store and get to shopping. Look for a ruffled lace blouse to pair with your black skinny jeans and some ballet flats. Or find a one of a kind old school cocktail dress to rock at your company holiday party. Have fun with it and go for the DRAMA.

For the Fellas

I was recently asked to do a post on Men’s Fashion…to share some tips with the fellas.
Well to all my male readers, the same rules apply…it’s all about fit, layers, accessories and looking polished. Some fashion no no’s the boys should look out for are as follows:

  • Ditch your over sized baggy pants! The trend of wearing your bottoms around your bootie is long gone. Even most of the hip hop stars who ignited this trend have tossed their baggys for a more fitting form pant. Now I’m not saying you fellas should rock the skinnys us ladies can get away with…I’m just saying get some jeans and dress pant that will actually stay on your waist without a belt on.
  • Tuck in your dress shirt and put on a belt! It’s that simple. It doesn’t matter if you have on a blazer and dress shoes, leaving your dress shirt hanging out of your pants makes you look sloppy and unpolished. Instead, tuck in that shirt and show off a simple yet classy leather belt with a small buckle. It will take you “dressed up” from a 3 to a 10!
  • Don’t be afraid to layer. Some of the hottest looks for men this Fall & Winter incorporate sweaters, vests and scarves. Give it a go! Try a heather gray thermal, with a navy V-Neck sweater or buttoned-up cardigan on top. You can even throw on a blazer to complete the look.
  • Stick to earth tones and leave the color for the ladies. I find that men look best when they keep it simple. Now that doesn’t mean you can’t throw on a splash of color here and there…but in general I find the following colors work best on men of all skin tones: brown, black, gray, tan, navy, white, beige, burgundy & green.

Fashion Tip: Some of my favorite places to shop Men Fashion are John Varvatos, Urban Outfitters, JCrew Men’s Shop in NY, Army/Navy Stores, The Gap, Banana Republic & Barneys .

Micheal Jackson Hollywood Birthday Tribute & MJ The Style Icon

Wanted to post this rad video that a friend of mine is responsible for but then thought…”Hmmm, what does this have to do with fashion?” Then I thought “Hello!!! It’s an MJ tribute and MJ was a fashion ICON!” It has everything to do with fashion…Woot!
The elaborate military jackets he loved to wear are back in full effect; worn by celebs and trendsetters alike. Michael Jackson started so many trends that still work today: the aviator shades, penny loafers, cropped pants! Check out the flash mob tribute below and some great old school MJ pics. RIP Michael. You’ll be missed.
