Labor Day has arrived and Summer is pretty much over but that’s okay because here comes FALL FASHION! Here are 5 of my favorite trends for this season. Check them out below, with tips on how to wear them and let me know what you think.

60s Lady Like: The Mad Men affect is still going strong so get fabulous, get lady like and have a ball. Go for full skirts and fitted tops, high-waist trousers and cardigans with accents of faux fur. Wear these looks with pumps that have a thicker, sturdy heel or pretty flats.

Socks and Shoes: I love this look! Though I will admit its not for everyone. If you can pull it off, go for it. Make sure the sock color compliments the boot or strappy sandal. This is a great way to expand your shoe inventory for Fall. You won’t have to put away all those open-toed shoes just yet…simply add a sock.

Leather and Lace: Go for pretty, go for edge or go for both at the same time! Have fun with leather and lace but stick to neutral colors like black and cream. Please don’t seek out red leather or pink lace…leave that for the ladies of the night. When wearing cream lace go for a chunky wedge or bootie boot in black to tone down the girly factor. On the flip side, when rocking black leather, try girly accents like a frilly top.

Buttoned Up Button Down: I like to call this “Nerdy Chic.” The days of over-sized boyfriend button-downs are over (for now), the newest trend is a sleek fit button down, buttoned all the way up! If your bra size is bigger than a C cup I would probably stay away from this trend. Covering up the cleavage to that extent may make you look top heavy. Another tip: because of the boyish nature of this trend, girl it up in every other way: hair down, red lip, fitted pants or short shorts to compliment.

Aviator and Military Fashions: The military trend just won’t go away but that’s okay, it looks fabulous on everyone and I’m a big fan. This season there’s an aviator influence on the military front. Think Amelia Earhart meets couture. Structured jackets and coats are the way to go, in army green and my new favorite color navy (such a great alternative to black). Faux fur and brown leather accents make this look complete.

Whether vegetarian, vegan or meat lover (that’s me) I’ve never felt right about using animals solely for their beautiful coats. Even when I was a small child in the 80s and my mom was rocking a mink something inside me was saying “Oh no, that ain’t right.” Since then my mama has given up her mink and many fashion houses have done the same. I mean, there’s really no need for real fur when there’s so many damn good FAUX FURS options. Its a huge trend this Fall and I’m looking forward to getting myself the perfect faux fur vest! Jungle Gurl: The concept is simple, eco-science and yet ever-so chic. Take vintage fabrics that the former model-cum-actress-cum-designer, Natalie Golonka, has amassed over years of global travel and rework them into fabulously flattering one-of-a-kind bikinis. The first of which were quickly snapped up by LA notables Fred Segal and Planet Blue, and have since spread to several boutiques across the country. Hot!

TV Host & Model Alexa Chung, is always one to look upon for fashion forward inspiration. This British hipster knows how to perfectly mix and match boyish pieces with girly accents. Her style is closest to mine, than any other celeb, and I dream of a day when I can raid her closet and run! Ha! Seriously though, her wardrobe is to die for. Here are some of her latest style debuts. Peep the gray ankle socks with the strappy blue heels and the oversized designer handbags…LOVE IT!

I’m a gal who loves shorts and chooses them over skirts, a lot of the time, for Spring and Summer fashion…I’m also a gal who went to 12 years of Catholic school and had to wear a uniform skirt everyday. So yeah, I may a little biased against skirts

The thing is, lots of time ladies will choose a skirt over shorts because they think shorts are too boyish or sporty. But in today’s fashion, there are plenty of sassy, dressy and stylish options that will give you an instant hip and chic look. So try ditching your skirt for a day and try on a cool pair of shorts!

I’m a big believer in shoes. They have the power to totally make or break an outfit. They are also perfect for the lazy fashionista (aka ME!)…what I mean is, you can literally throw on a t-shirt and jeans or little black dress and “WOW” the outfit by adding a killer pair of heels, funky boots or bright-colored kicks. Bottom-line: Have Fun With Your Foot-Wear!

It’s about that time in both the West and East coasts to put away the opaque tights for Spring and Summer and transition to bare legs! Get the razors out ladies and embrace some skin. If you’re anything like me, the transition can feel weird at first. You just spent the last 6 or 7 months rocking all sorts of fun tights with your skirts, dresses and shorts and now with weather in the 70s it just feels weird. Well here are a few great tip to help with with the switch over:

• Start with bare legs but keep the boots. (Preferably bootie boots) Going from opaque tights to bare legs and open toe shoes can be a bit jarring so take it one step at a time. You can also do bare legs with close-toe pumps as an option.
• Mix and match a Winter/Fall tops with a Spring/Summer bottoms. Example: Pair a long-sleeve, knit sweater in black, brown or grey with a cotton, flowy skirt in beige, cream or floral print. Add booties and you’re done!
• Add ankle socks to strappy sandals. If you don’t have a pair of bootie boots or you just want to try something different and fun…invest in a few pairs of ankle socks in pretty pastel colors like pink, yellow and cream then throw on your favorite strappy sandals or heels. Viola! a great mix of Winter and Spring.
