Isabel Marant Makes Me Hot For Fall

I know its still Summer but truth be told I’m a huge fan of Fall/Winter fashion. I love layers and jackets, sweaters and boots so I’m absolutely ready for the change of season. I also live in LA and for me Fall/Winter does not equal snow/cold. Instead it just means grab a jacket for when the sun goes down.

Isabel Marant’s Fall/Winter 2010/11 line makes me all warm and tingly inside. She has flawlessly combined all my favorites (how did she know?!): chunky knits, fierce jackets, skinny pants, boy meets girl looks with touches of sequin…yay! Check out photos from her show and the sick campaign shot featuring Kate Moss.  Would you rock these looks? Leave a comment and share.

Go Buy Now: 5 Summer Essentials

Its Summer Time! So let’s go shopping. Here are 5 of my favorite Summer Essentials. Read below for shopping links and “How To” wear them. Leave me a comment and let me know what’s your favorite essential. And as always, feel free to ask me any styling questions you may have. Happy Shopping!

#1 Blazers & Jackets: Military Jackets are BIG this season and perfect to throw over girly pieces to “edge it up” a bit. (Urban Outfitters $48) Ivory, Cream or Off-White Blazers will dress up everything in your closet. They look chic and polished and the light colors are a dreamy replacement to your black Boyfriend Blazer for Summer. (Ann Taylor LOFT $89.50)

#2 Floral Print Dresses: Floral dresses were hot for Spring and continue on into the Summer. They’re great when you want to stay cool and be comfy but still look fabulous. Wear them with strappy flats or earth toned wedges. (Kimchi Blue $58 & J Crew $250)

#3 Loose Fit Pants: Perfectly paired with a tank, vest or light jacket these pants are a fun twist on Summer fashion. Have fun with patterns and colors and make sure the fit is loose NOT baggy…roll up the bottoms, throw on some wedges and viola! A hip, trendy look for all body types. (What Goes Around, Comes Around $194.45 & J Brand $216)

#4 Slouchy Shorts: The days of Daisy Dukes are long gone…so please don’t wear them! Instead opt for slouchy jean or chino shorts; they are way more comfortable and a lot more classy. Try wearing them with a sheer or lace girly top and a pair of Keds…its a feminine and casual look you can rock all Summer long. (The Gap $50 & Son of John Sequin Trim $152)

#5 Pastels & Neons: Whether its a skirt, shirt or pair of pants get adventurous this Summer with pastel and neon colors! But please don’t over do it. Limit your look to ONE item of pastel or neon and make sure the rest of your outfit is basic. American Apparel is dominating in the color palettes so visit your local store and go crazy. (All American Apparel: Skirt $54, Tank $15 & Slim Slacks $73)

Travel In Style…Always!

On my recent flight from LAX to JFK I noticed something I could no longer ignore: women looking like slobs when flying! Yeah ok, I get it, you want to be comfortable…its a long flight…blah, blah, blah. But there’s a way to be comfortable and still look fabulous! So please give your Uggs and Juicy Couture sweatsuits to charity…NOW!

5 Clothing Items (you probably already own) That Are Comfy & Still Stylish:

1. Flats: Throw on a pair of fashionable flats! Whether ballet black, printed or fleece moccassins, flats are a great comfy alternative to Uggs. They are easy to slip on and off at airport security and they look feminine and chic.

2. Cotton or Jean Leggings: Leggings are a way more put together looking than sweats and equally as warm and comfortable! Plus no belt needed so you wont get held up at security.

3. Long Cardigan, Sweater or Coat: Invest in a fashionista fun sweater or coat that covers your bum and keeps you warm. We all know how chilly an airplane can get and since no one offers blankets anymore…bring your own! In the form of apparel.

4. Stylish Scarf: Its pretty hard to NOT look totally awesome when you’re rocking a kick-ass scarf. Scarves are the ultimate accessory because they really can bring any outfit from boring to WOW! Its also a great airplane tool for covering your face when your rude neighbor rips a stinky one (you know what I’m talking about)

5. Carry-On Bag: A shopping bag is NOT an acceptable carry-on bag! Even if its a “designer” shopping bag like Barneys or Saks! Luggage can be pricey but its a total investment and can make traveling so much easier. Invest the money…its worth it! Have fun with colors, styles and prints. But make sure its a sensible fun, you don’t want to spend money on a pattern or color you’re gonna be sick of after your 3rd trip.

Check out these lovely celebs and their fantastic travel looks. Leave a comment below and let me know what you think. Happy Traveling! (click on the links above to shop the items)

Happy Earth Day!

In honor of Earth Day, I want to tell you about two great designers producing Earth friendly fashion: Jungle Gurl & People Tree. Check out their stories and photos below, visit their sites, and let me know what you think. HAPPY EARTH DAY!

Jungle Gurl: The concept is simple, eco-science and yet ever-so chic. Take vintage fabrics that the former model-cum-actress-cum-designer, Natalie Golonka, has amassed over years of global travel and rework them into fabulously flattering one-of-a-kind bikinis. The first of which were quickly snapped up by LA notables Fred Segal and Planet Blue, and have since spread to several boutiques across the country. Hot!

People Tree: All you need to learn more about this UK based fashion company is their very insightful Mission Statement.

  • To support producer partners’ efforts towards economic independence and control over their environment and to challenge the power structures that undermine their rights to a livelihood.
  • To protect the environment and use natural resources sustainably throughout our trading and to promote environmentally responsible lifestyles and environmental initiatives to create new models to promote sustainability.
  • To supply customers with good quality products, with friendly and efficient service and build awareness to empower consumers and producers to participate in Fair Trade and environmentally sustainable solutions.
  • To provide a supportive environment to all stakeholders and promote dialogue and understanding between them.
  • To set an example to business and the government of a Fair Trade model of business based on partnership, people-centred values and sustainability.

Shorts For Summer, Shorts For Spring

I’m a gal who loves shorts and chooses them over skirts, a lot of the time, for Spring and Summer fashion…I’m also a gal who went to 12 years of Catholic school and had to wear a uniform skirt everyday. So yeah, I may a little biased against skirts

The thing is, lots of time ladies will choose a skirt over shorts because they think shorts are too boyish or sporty. But in today’s fashion, there are plenty of sassy, dressy and stylish options that will give you an instant hip and chic look. So try ditching your skirt for a day and try on a cool pair of shorts!

#1 French Connection $78

#2 Helmut Lang Leather Shorts $760 (for my super dupa baller readers)

#3 Alexander Wang $430

#4 J Crew $59.50

#5 Thread Social $255

#6 Top Shop $60

Fashion Tip For Women: Transitioning To Bare Legs

It’s about that time in both the West and East coasts to put away the opaque tights for Spring and Summer and transition to bare legs! Get the razors out ladies and embrace some skin. If you’re anything like me, the transition can feel weird at first. You just spent the last 6 or 7 months rocking all sorts of fun tights with your skirts, dresses and shorts and now with weather in the 70s it just feels weird. Well here are a few great tip to help with with the switch over:

  • Start with bare legs but keep the boots. (Preferably bootie boots) Going from opaque tights to bare legs and open toe shoes can be a bit jarring so take it one step at a time. You can also do bare legs with close-toe pumps as an option.
  • Mix and match a Winter/Fall tops with a Spring/Summer bottoms. Example: Pair a long-sleeve, knit sweater in black, brown or grey with a cotton, flowy skirt in beige, cream or floral print. Add booties and you’re done!
  • Add ankle socks to strappy sandals. If you don’t have a pair of bootie boots or you just want to try something different and fun…invest in a few pairs of ankle socks in pretty pastel colors like pink, yellow and cream then throw on your favorite strappy sandals or heels. Viola! a great mix of Winter and Spring.

Here are some photo examples. (Click on the image for larger view) Happy Transitioning!
